In case you missed it on our social media channels last week, we posted about the eighth of nine recurring sub-themes in confirmation and related practices found in our qualitative research—Christian Foundation for Public Life—plus an illustrative church portrait. Stay tuned for the last sub-theme, and a portrait illustrating it, later this week!

Subtheme 8: Christian Foundation for Public Life
Portrait: First AME Church Las Vegas
“Third grader, ‘Kallie,’ said ‘I like coming here. [The programs] teach me stuff that I don’t know about God…I want to come [to this church] because it lets me know that I’m a part of God’s Spirit.’ Being ‘a part of God’s Spirit’ is not just a coy expression spoken by a precocious third grader for the benefit of a cameraperson. Rather it is demonstrated by the congregational expressions of outreach to neighbors in varying stations of identity and need.” This is the observation of our researcher who visited First AME Church Las Vegas–and a great example of our 8th sub-theme, CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION FOR PUBLIC LIFE!
