Meet Richard

Richard Osmer is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA). He currently is the Ralph B. and Helen S. Ashenfelter Professor of Mission and Evangelism the in the Education and Formation area of the Department of Practical Theology. A native of North Carolina, he attended college at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He studied for his Masters and Masters of Divinity at Harvard and Yale respectively and did his doctoral work at Emory University. He has written numerous books and articles. His book, Practical Theology: An Introduction, was listed among the “top ten books of the year” for 2008 by the Academy of Parish Clergy. His current research focuses on the interplay of evangelism, spiritual formation, and outreach in missional congregations.
