Purpose of Confirmation: Parents Emphasize Completion

In case you missed it on our social media channels, we’ve begun sharing the data relating to the purpose of confirmation and equivalent practices. You can find last week’s Part 1 on youth perception of the purpose of confirmation here. Here’s Part 2, relating to parents’ perception.

You can also find this on Facebook at www.facebook.com/confirmationproject and Twitter at www.twitter.com/confirmproject.

Parents emphasize COMPLETION: Parent understanding of the goals of confirmation and equivalent practices were very similar to the leaders. The desired topics to be covered were also very similar, though parents tended to emphasize faith specifics less than leaders (e.g. baptism and experiences of God). Instead, they tended to emphasize more than leaders the importance of the culturally understood basics of faith (e.g. the Lord’s Prayer and the 10 Commandments).
