In Case You Missed It: Confirmation Sub-themes 1 and 2

In case you missed it on social media in the last two weeks, we explored the first two of nine recurring sub-themes in confirmation and related practices found in our qualitative research, plus a couple of illustrative church portraits. We’ll be posting about the rest of the sub-themes, and portraits illustrating many of them, in the coming weeks!

Feel free to browse the entire portrait collection here.

Sub-theme 1: Confirmation Matters!!!

“…Confirmation is like gold for you [for these two years], you have the Bible and all the good stuff of God for you, prayer, the apostles creed, and serving God…this is the time for you to get the tools for your life.” In other words, CONFIRMATION MATTERS! We gleaned this quote from our time with Peace Lutheran Church in the Hilltop area of Tacoma, WA. Their portrait is one of many that underscore this hopeful sub-theme from our qualitative research. You can view their portrait here.

Sub-theme 2: Committed, Faithful Shared Leadership

“While Joe’s relationship with the young people that he has ministered to is irreplaceable, a sign of his impressive leadership is the way he lifts up, trains, and empowers other staff and volunteers.” Joe is the youth minister at St. Michael The Archangel Episcopal Church in Colorado Springs, CO, and this quote was the reflective observation of our investigator while researching there. Joe’s example is that of COMMITTED, FAITHFUL SHARED LEADERSHIP, the 2nd of 9 confirmation sub-themes that we found throughout our qualitative research! Check out St. Mike’s portrait here.
